This isn't really a blog, just where I collect thoughts about what I'm doing that you might find interesting. You might not.
ADVENTURES IN SCREEN PRINTING (30 October 2023)
In an effort to do as much as makes sense by myself (keeping it handmade by hands in kitchener, on) I've been working on the artwork for my pedals. I've made standard templates/frames and then the images are taken from pictures I've taken as I walk my dog. Then I screw them all up so they're single colour images with bold areas of light and dark (I just like it). Up until now I've been struggling with waterslide decals, stickers, whatever, and I haven't been satisfied.
A few years ago, I tried my hand at screen printing and failed horribly - I had some other logistical problems (bad water pressure not least among them) - and it kind of put me off. More recently though, I decided to try it again. Why, I asked, would I not try and make something of higher quality with a little uniqueness in each unit? I had moved, I still had the tools. Time to try again.
Now, this being the second time I've ever tried, it wasn't perfect. That's ok. I'd still say it was successful. Everything going forward will be hand printed by me in my backyard. They won't all be perfect. None of them will be. But I think they'll look better, they'll last longer, and they'll each be special (even if they might be a bit ugly).
