Argument is a fuzzy, compressed boost.
Plates crashing. Doors slamming. A dark cloud is hanging over your head. Argument is a dirty boost that goes from "a-bit-dirty" to "everyone-I-love-is-going-to-die". The further the controls are from one another the uglier the sounds and the more compressed and gnarly the initial attack gets. As the gain increases, the sustain decreases, becoming somewhat gated and just altogether gross.
NOTE:
The first batch of these pedals has a problem with the powder coat. This meant that the screen print didn't adhere properly. Basically they're going to look beat to hell sooner than they should. Bummer? That's up to interpretation. Either way, the whole batch is being sold at 20% off. They still sound nasty as hell. If you want a tougher enclosure, I'll put up 10 spots for the next batch which will be complete in January of 2024.
Controls:
Coupling: Biases/misbiases the first stage to go from a light breakup to a garbled mess - gets cleaner CW
Loud: This makes it go loud - increases CW
Powered by standard - BOSS style - 9VDC center negative supply.
Background:
Argument was originally intended to be my argument (heh!) for cloning circuits, starting out as a riff on the Electra Distortion. Then I ditched the diodes, changed a few values - now it was just a common emitter amplifier that sounded good. Then I added another stage that I also thought sounded good. Then I added the ability to misbias the input transistor. Now it's something else and the name remains. I think it's a good name.
